Abstract

This article aims to reflect on the teaching of Portuguese as L2 to late learners, more precisely to older adult learners (60+). Population aging, one of the most significant social changes of the 21st century, has transversal implications that extend to all sectors of society, including to the educational area. However, despite these demographic changes, it is important to highlight that there are few studies that focus on the aspects faced by this group of learners when learning an L2. Hence, in this article, we seek to reflect not only on some of the factors that interfere in the acquisition / learning of L2, but also, based on Gomez (2016) and on our experience with older adult learners, to consider a proposal of critical geragogy applied to teaching of Portuguese L2.
