Dicionários como ferramentas pedagógicas no ensino e aprendizagem de Português como L2/LE: o público infantojuvenil em cena
Abstract
This paper presents the role of dictionaries and children's glossaries as pedagogical tools in the teaching and learning of Portuguese as a Foreign or Second Language (PLE/PL2), with strategies for using didactic materials for lexical learning. The descriptive-analytical study analyzes three reference works—Palavrinha Viva (Francisco Borba), Saraiva Infantil de A a Z, and Meu Primeiro Dicionário Ilustrado de Língua Portuguesa (Ubiratan Rosa)—based on Faulstich's criteria, evaluating their macro- and microstructures, their suitability for the target audience, and their potential application in LLE/L2 teaching contexts. Initially, the theoretical basis is presented, highlighting the relevance of dictionaries in the language learning process, especially because they contribute to expanding vocabulary and developing learners' autonomy in consulting reference works. In this context, Maia-Pires and Vilarinho highlight that lexical teaching plays a central role in consolidating communicative competences in a foreign/second language (F/L2), with lexicographical resources being fundamental for the development of this skill. The work then focuses on presenting three lexicographical works that can be used for language teaching and learning, considering the structure of the works, the selection and arrangement of entries, the clarity of definitions, the presence of illustrations, and the accessibility of the language. Thus, based on pedagogical lexicography, the study reaffirms that the lexicon is an essential element in the acquisition of an F/L2 and that the guided use of dictionaries can expand the linguistic repertoire of young learners. Finally, it concludes that, although they present great pedagogical potential, these works require qualified mediation, practical application, and innovative approaches, reinforcing their relevance in inclusive and effective methodologies. Therefore, some activities are suggested.
